I made my living by the law
done my job with pride
never killed the sinner
didn't deserve to die

    some folks say God's a gambler
        but the stakes are pretty high
            Good Book says you only live once
        but there a million ways to die

I tried my hand at preaching
when I was a younger man
but I found the best sermon
was a rifle or a rope or my own two hands

it won't be
too late for you to pray
for mercy sweet
from the Lord Above
before I send you
on your way
